QuickStart

Overview

QuickStart is our program for people with new spinal cord injuries (SCI). QuickStart provides support to the hospital team looking after a person with spinal cord injury. Inreach support can be provided while waiting for transfer to the Spinal Injuries Unit (SIU) or when rehabilitation happens in an acute or rehabilitation setting in a local hospital.

Who are we?

  • QuickStart is a collaborative inreach service that is part of the Queensland Spinal Cord Injuries Service (QSCIS). QSCIS also includes the Spinal Injuries Unit (SIU), Transitional Rehabilitation Program (TRP), Spinal Outreach Team (SPOT) and SIU Outpatients.
  • We are a team of experienced nursing, medical, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work and psychology health professionals.
  • QuickStart is a service initiative supported through project funding.

Who can use our service?

  • We work jointly with health professionals in non-specialist inpatient hospital settings who are working with people who meet key QSCIS eligibility criteria and have a new SCI.
  • We are a statewide inreach service to people in Queensland or northern New South Wales.

How can QuickStart help?

  • We support the clinician and the person with a SCI as they transition from the acute period following their SCI.
  • We provide education, assist with assessment and advice about equipment, support services, health issues, grief and adjustment, funding and applications and how to prevent complications after SCI.
  • We can keep in regular contact and check progress via phone, email, video calls or face to face visit (within 150km of SIU).
  • Should you need urgent assistance out of hours, please do not hesitate to contact the SIU Registrar or CNC on 07 3176 2737.
